Friday Update – June 28, 2019
June 18, 2019
Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!
I hope everyone had a great week! Despite vacations and the usual summer slowdown, we have been keeping busy.
Kicking off on Tuesday in Baltimore, MD, was the WBENC National Conference and Business Fair. Peggy and thousands of other women entrepreneurs and corporate executives enjoyed three days of innovative educational programming, inspiring keynotes, 1:1 MatchMaker sessions, networking opportunities, and an unrivaled Business Fair. And if you follow Peggy on Twitter, which you definitely should, you’d also know that she enjoyed a delicious Maryland crab dinner with friends from Comcast, WBEC East and CCI Consulting! Needless to say, Peggy made a lot of great new connections and she’s looking forward to partnering with other WBEs as Partner’s Consulting continue to grow.
Also on Tuesday, Women in Cable Telecommunications’ (WICT) held their Tech It Out event at the Philadelphia 201 Hotel. One thing Peggy is especially passionate about as a woman business owner in the tech space, is sparking girls’ interest in STEM and giving them the opportunity to investigate and learn about careers in tech. So I was thrilled to be able to attend this event along with two very special middle schoolers – my daughter, Abby, and my son, Kieran. This year’s theme was Emerging Technologies and it was fascinating. The keynote speaker was Danielle Cohn, who is the head of Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs, which supports startups in media, entertainment and connectivity. Danish Dhamani, a CEO from one of the startups, discussed his app, Orai, which is an AI Speech Coach that helps people learn to communicate with confidence. Abby downloaded it immediately and is very excited to start using it! Ibrahim Baggili, an internationally recognized expert in cyber security and digital forensics from the University of New Haven, discussed cyber security and hacking the virtual reality space, which was a very important lesson in online safety. Obviously, for my kids, the best part of the event was the 8,000 pieces of promotional knickknacks and swag that they got to take home.
